Cops ID Man Killed By Driver Who Veered Off Route 46

A 64-year-old Independence Township man was identified as the victim struck and killed by a vehicle that veered off Route 46 and onto the sidewalk in Hackettstown Wednesday morning, Jan. 29, authorities said.

At 10:52 a.m., a 2018 GMC Canyon, driven by a 61-year-old Flanders man, veered off the road and hit Roynaldo Tabeta while he was walking on the sidewalk in front of the CVS Pharmacy on Main Street, Hackettstown police said.

Tabeta was rushed to Hackettstown Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, police said. The driver was also transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for a medical evaluation.

Route 46 was closed between West Stiger Street and Valentine Street for hours as authorities conducted their investigation, police said.

Funeral arrangements have not been publicly announced
